Chicago Avenue Roundhouse – 3 Aerial Photos.  These 14” x 11” photos are mounted on hardboard and show the area around Chicago Ave. & Halsted St. as demolition of the roundhouse was underway.  Visible are the Carpenter St. Tower, Sangamon St. Tower, roundhouse, coal chute, power plant, office at 723 W. Chicago Ave., adjacent industries and the Erie Street Coach yard, which is still being used.  These are professional photos and are razor-sharp.  Scans are low-resolution. Correspondence – Mechanical Department.   A group of various Mechanical Department correspondence relating to steam locomotive and facility repairs.  There are well over 100 one-of-a-kind items in this lot, providing a rare glimpse into C&NW motive power operations from as much as 80 years ago.  This lot can never be duplicated.  Condition can be described as being from good to well used.   • 1920 – Installation of air operated fire doors on Class D locomotives.
  • 1924 – Installation of thermic syphons to 3 Class A locomotives.
  • 1925 – Purchase of Gas-Electric Motor Cars.
  • 1926 – Installation of stationary boiler at Spring Valley, Illinois converted from Engine 696.
  • 1926 – Installation of stationary boiler at Linwood, Nebr. converted from Engine 688.

Erection Drawings – Steam Locomotives.  These are large-scale elevation drawings of steam locomotives drawn to a scale of 1-1/2” = 1’-0”.  These locomotives have been scrapped for over 50 years.  The drawings are too large to photograph completely so only the right hand end is shown.  The drawings are folded and were all printed in 1954.  Original issue date is shown to the right.

Timely Topics was a  4-page newsletter issued by the Traffic Department for both the public and railway employees beginning in about 1935 and continuing for an undetermined period thereafter.  Issues are in good to very good condition for their age.   Issues are available where noted with an x.  Prices are per issue.  Timely Topics was succeeded by the North Western Newsliner, copies of which can be found under Employee Magazines.
